Priest on call
Emergency counselling and crisis support that you can reach via 112. On-call priests are available throughout the country.
About the on-call priest
The Church of Sweden offers an on-call priest for those in need of someone to talk to about a concern—such as grief, loneliness, suicidal thoughts, or anxiety. Both you and the priest remain anonymous. The service is available during the hours when many other services are closed.
How do I contact the priest on call?
You can reach the on-call priest by calling 112. The service is open in the evenings and at night.
You can also send an email to the on-call priest at any time and you will receive a response within 24 hours. You can also chat with the on-call priest every evening.
You find more information and their opening hours on the Church of Sweden website. (Information in Swedish)
Does the on-call priest have a duty of confidentiality?
Yes. Like all priests, the priests on duty also have absolute confidentiality. This means that the information you provide in the conversation cannot be passed on. The priest cannot be called to testify in court about anything they have learned during the conversation.
- The conversation is not recorded and what is said stays between you and the priest.
- If you send an email, the messages are encrypted and disappear when you delete them or when the time for access to the digital letter and response has expired.
- The content of the chat is encrypted and disappears when the chat session is closed or the chat time has expired.
Do I need to be a believer or belogn to the Church of Sweden?
No. You do not need to belong to the Church of Sweden or be a believer to contact the on-call priest.
