Easy-read: About Important Public Announcements (VMA)

Important Public Announcements (VMA)

is a warning issued to the public

during major accidents or crises.

The warning can also be issued as

an emergency preparedness alarm if Sweden were at war.

This is how a VMA can be sent:

  • Through the outdoor signal Important Public Announcement,
    also known as Hesa Fredrik.

  • Warning on radio and TV.

  • Warning to your landline if
you are in the affected area.

  • SMS to your mobile phone if
you are in the affected area.

  • Warning via apps such as
    the 112 app or Krisinformation.

This is what you should do if a VMA is issued:

  • Listen to and/or read the instructions.

  • Go indoors.

  • Close doors, windows and vents.

  • Listen to Sveriges Radio P4.

  • Read updates on SVT's Teletext page 100
    and Teletext page 599.

Do not call the emergency number 112 to get more information.

Instead call the information number 113 13

or read more at www.krisinformation.se

Test of the outdoor signal for VMA:

The signal for Important Public Announcement

and All Clear is tested at 15:00

on the first weekday Monday in

March, June, September and December.

During the test information

is also provided on the radio and in the 112 app.

The test is not sent via SMS.
