• What information is available in the app?

  SOS Alarm publishes various types of information in the app. Information is published under the Current tab and is also sent as notifications if you have enabled this in your settings. The different information categories are:

  • 112 events
  • VMA, Important Public Announcement
  • Crisis and public information
  • Preventive information for safety and security

   

  In the Info tab you will also find information about important phone numbers, how a 112 call works, CPR and more.

• What is Important Public Announcement (VMA) and how does it work in the 112 app?

  VMA, Important Public Announcement, is a warning system used in the event of accidents and serious incidents, severe disruptions to important public services and crisis management in connection with extraordinary events. The warning system includes information on radio and TV and in certain cases the outdoor warning system and SMS to mobile phones.
  
  In the 112 app we notify users who are within a certain radius of an incident when a VMA is issued. To receive information about a VMA in the app you need to be within the area the message applies to and have the correct app settings. The area that is to receive the message is defined in consultation with the responsible authority.
  
  VMA via the 112 app is a supplementary information channel and does not replace the standard VMA distribution via radio, TV and SMS.
  
  Under the More - Notifications tab you can choose what type of notification you want to receive for VMA. It is possible to select Notification alarm for VMA. Notification alarm is a specific alarm signal that alerts even when the phone is in silent and do not disturb mode. The alarm signal gradually increases from very low volume to high volume over 30 seconds. Under the More - Notifications tab you have the option to test how the Notification alarm sounds on your phone.

• How do I call 112 using the app?

  If you want to call 112 via the app, press the 'Get help' button on the home screen and then select 'Call 112'. This will start a phone call to 112 and your location will automatically be sent to the emergency dispatch center via your phone.
  
  The emergency operator will also ask you to confirm your location, just to be sure.
  
  If you need to read out your exact location, you can easily see your coordinates via the location icon on the map in the app.

• Can I choose which area I receive information from?

  At present it is not possible to choose from which location notifications are sent. The purpose of the app is to receive information in your local area. This means that you will receive information about selected events if you are within the predefined reception area. The distance to the event varies depending on the type of event and where in the country you are located.

• How is my location used?

  In order to provide you with information about events near you, the app sometimes needs to determine your approximate location. This is done using the phone's built-in GPS. The location is only used to determine which events are relevant to you. Each time a new location is retrieved the previous one is deleted, so it is not possible to track how your phone has moved over time.

  SOS Alarm does not know who has downloaded the app and does not save or track any location information beyond what is described here.

  If you have turned off location services on your phone, the app will not have access to your location. In that case no GPS information will be sent to SOS Alarm.

  For the app to work as intended you need to allow "Always allow exact location" in your phone's settings.

• Does the app work abroad?

  112 events are only sent to users located in Sweden, as the app handles 112 events within the country. If you are abroad you will therefore not receive any location-based 112 events.

  However, certain general information is sent to all users, including those located outside Sweden. If needed, the app can also be used to distribute crisis and public information.

  112 is a shared emergency number within the EU. If you call 112 via the app you will be connected to the emergency dispatch center in the country where you are located at that time.

• How do I choose which notifications I want to receive from the app?

  You can choose which notifications you want to receive for each information category under More - Notifications in the app. You can select Notification on, Notification off and Notification alarm. 
  
  A prerequisite for receiving notifications is that you allow this in your phone's settings for the app. To receive Notification alarm you also need to allow Critical alerts on iOS and Do not disturb access on Android.
